Repurpose, Adapt, or Skip: How to Know Which Platforms Fit Your Content
“Repurpose your content” is good advice with a missing step. Nobody tells you how to decide which platforms are worth it. Without that, you either post the same thing everywhere or freeze and post nowhere.
Here is a simple three-way decision for any piece of content on any platform.
Green: post it directly. The current account supports the format and the content still fits. Check aspect ratio, text placement, length, links and usage rights before reusing it; even green may need changes.
Blue: adjust first. The format is available, but the audience or presentation calls for adaptation. A LinkedIn version of a TikTok script needs more context and a written structure. The idea stays, the expression changes.
Red: skip or reformat. The platform does not support the format well, or forcing it there would look lazy. Either rebuild the idea into a format that fits, or leave that platform alone.
To apply it, start with one format you already make. Check which platforms support it. Reach for the green candidates first, after checking whether reuse actually saves work. Review the blue ones and decide if the adaptation is worth your time. Avoid red unless you are deliberately rebuilding the idea from scratch.
Four questions decide the call every time. Does the format fit the platform? Does the content fit that platform’s audience? Do you have the capacity to adapt it properly? Does it respect how people actually behave there?
The goal is never to be everywhere. The goal is to make one clear decision per platform, based on fit instead of fear of missing out.
Repurposing 101 does the green, blue, and red planning across 95 platforms and 12 formats. It is free by email and is a starting map, not a live integration or universal feature guarantee. Check your account and current platform rules as you decide instead of guess.
Frequently asked questions
How do I decide which platforms to repurpose content to?
Use three working categories. Green: a candidate for direct reuse after checking format, rights and account availability. Blue: adapt the expression to the audience and available features. Red: skip or rebuild when the format or effort does not fit. These are planning judgments, not guarantees of reach.
What questions decide whether to repurpose to a platform?
Four. Does the format fit the platform? Does the content fit that platform’s audience? Do you have the capacity to adapt it properly? Does it respect how people actually behave there?
